Crimson Aura is a singapore based company promoting and selling Indian painting. In past few years, during our travel through various parts of North India specifically in the state of Rajasthan,we had opportunities to see various art forms and to meet local artists. We came across various schools of art such as:

Phad Paintings – Originating from Rajasthan, these paintings are made on a cloth, using the vegetable colours. Colours are used in a fixed order starting from orange-yellow to brown, green, and red and finally black.

Pichwai Painting – These paintings are the ritual art form offering to the deities, especially Hindu gods and goddesses. Painting theme revolves around Lord Krishna such as Raas Leela (dance of divine love) etc. Udaipur and Nathdwara, two cities in Rajasthan are famous for Pichwai paintings.

Rajput Painting – These painting are made using vegetable colours. Artist uses brilliant colour scheme and decorativeness. Painting themes depicts the stories of court scenes, ruler portraits, and scenes of royal pursuits, such as festivals, processions and hunting.

Marble Painting – These paintings are made on a beautiful natural stone. They are made with gold leaf, semi precious gem and stones. Theme comprises of Indian musical instrument, jewellery, pots, royal places, royal lifestyle and many more.

Gem Stone Painting- The art of Gemstone painting is a branch of glass painting. This form of painting emphasizes on the usage of colours derived from natural gemstone like Agate, Amethysts, and Blood-stones, Blue and yellow sapphire and many more. Themes often depict traditional Rajasthan princess adorning jewellery, playing musical instrument, sitting in the courtyard, playing with parrot and deer etc.

Kishangarh Painting: In the middle of the 18th century, under the patronage of Maharaja Sawant Singh Kishangarh painting emerged as a distinctive style. Nihal Chand, a gifted artist in the court produced some highly sophisticated work. These painting are characterized by elongated face, lavish use of green and depiction of panoramic landscape. Most famous Kishangarh painting is called Bani Thani. They are labelled as “Indian Mona Lisa”.

It was heartening to meet the artists and see the intricate work and colourful art that has been kept alive since 16th century by generations of these artisans. These artisans were prosperous class before British Raj and were highly patronised by the royal families. Earlier the walls and ceilings of the royal palaces, havelis and forts were adorned by these paintings. Today artists use various surfaces such as paper, stamp paper, old paper canvas, silk, cloth, plywood etc. These paintings are made using natural water based colours that would last for years and hold the beauty of painting. 24 carat gold leaf and semi precious stones are used to enhance the features in paintings.

In recent times, this art form is going through a difficult phase. Today art lovers have more options available in the form of digital images, modern art and art available from other parts of the world. People have high accessibility to these arts through internet. This has specifically affected artists in the remote areas of Rajasthan. In lieu of right channels and promoters these artists are unable to continue their traditional profession.

At Crimson Aura, we are working with a pool of excellent artists from rural Rajasthan who has been in need of right channel to sell. We are providing a platform to them to promote and sell the art to discerning buyers in Singapore.
